Second tour due to popular demand!
Iceland is incredible at any time of year but through the winter months when the landscape is transformed by a covering of snow and ice it becomes even more spectacular than ever. Frozen waterfalls, beaches littered with icebergs, snow covered volcanoes and mountains and of course Aurora Borealis will be the highlights of the tour.
The first three days will be spent on the West Coast of Iceland at Snaefellsnes. Based at Grundarfjordur we are perfectly positioned to photograph all of the peninsular, especially the iconic Kirkjufell mountain. This wizard hat shaped mountain is incredibly photogenic and we may get lucky enough to see the mountain covered in snow. There are many ways to photograph the mountain but the most special is probably during the evenings under a clear sky with Aurora Borealis overhead.
Then we make the jump to Vik. We will be staying near Skogafoss, the huge iconic Icelandic waterfall and explore the coastline and clifftops. This will give us access to the prehistoric sea stacks of Vik and other frozen landscapes. The coastline here is really superb and there are plenty of opportunities to shoot aurora in key locations.
Then for the last leg of the tour we will base ourselves near Jokulsarlon. We will be based just a few minutes from the iceberg lagoon where will spend a couple of days photographing this remarkable landscape. Views of the Vatnajokull Glacier, icebergs in the lagoon and the black volcanic beach covered in diamond like icebergs provide endless photographic possibilities.
Please note- A reasonable degree of fitness will be required to negotiate a possible icy terrain from time to time.
Even on our long travel days we made loads of stops to do some planned and spur of the moment photography. I would have gone along with more down time but then I would not have gotten the many photos I have, he did push us to go out when all I wanted to do was go to bed, but I am so happy he did do that as I paid for a photography trip not a R and R trip. Plenty of time to rest now!
As a bonus we had Carla Regler as a guest who jumped in to assist as well when needed. I learned so much this trip. Davids knowledge is incredible.
David provided very effective tuition, taking a keen interest in all members of the group.
A well run and managed tour that was great fun.
David has the ability to explain things in such a logical way. I am very grateful for his time and patience. He planned the trip to get the very best out of the light and weather we had and we couldn't have asked for more.
David was very flexible which meant that the plans could change to take account of weather conditions and make the most of them
No question was ever too basic and David treated all with patience and consideration and had the ability to make technical aspects very logical and clear. He is a great teacher.
