Sorry, this tour is fully booked.

After two superbly successful tours in February 2014 and 2015, and a fully booked tour in 2016, Phil and Clive will be returning to this stunning country at the same time in 2017.

With its harmonious combination of breathtaking and unspoilt natural landscapes, Myanmar is a unique destination for photographers. The fascination of the country lies in the mystery of its history and religion, which offers to visitor’s marvelous ancient cities, enhanced by literally thousands of old Pagodas and magnificent temples. The remains of Myanmar’s glorious past is to be seen everywhere we look. There is no doubt that Myanmar contains the richest archaeological sites in Southeast Asia.

But this “Golden Land” has so much more and boasts an abundance of wonderful landscapes thanks to the majesty of its sweeping mountain ranges, its serene lakes, mighty rivers and its lush rain forests.
The people of this remarkable country always offer spontaneous smiles and immediate trusting and generous friendship. They are a radiant people and every meeting seems to enrich us in some way.
Light & Land has developed a very specific tour that will cover many of the celebrated, photographic locations and some of the lesser known and more remote ones.

We will be visiting and photographing Yangon (our arrival port) and then onward to Bagan, set on the eastern bank of Ayeyarwaddy River and the once splendid and glorious capital of the First Myanmar Empire. It is impossible to believe but 26 square kilometers are dotted with thousands of ancient pagodas, shrines and monuments that date back very many centuries. In many cases, we will be able to climb up a few steps inside the pagodas for panoramas that will leave us in a state of silent wonder; such is the truly unbelievable nature of this completely unfamiliar landscape.

Onward to Mandalay with it’s famous 1000 metre wooden bridge for breathtaking photography at dawn or after sunset and of course not to be missed, the stunning pure white Myatheindan pagoda. Just 20 Kilometers from Myanmar, we will take a short ferry ride (5 minutes) across the river to the small island community of Inwa, once the original Burmese capital. With horse drawn carriages we will visit and photograph some of the remote and semi dilapidated pagodas and temples each retaining their elegance and beauty. The 1770 built Bagaya Monastery on Inwa, made entirely from teak, will never be forgotten.

From Mandalay, our journey will take us to yet another prize location, the celestial Inle Lake. Our accommodation where we will remain for three nights seems to have grown almost organically from the shallow lakebed itself. Our private boat will be with us for the duration allowing 360-degree photography and the rare opportunities to have our boat maneuver to our wishes. Inle Lake, with its outrageously picturesque settings made up of floating villages and gardens is truly a photographer’s paradise.

We have chosen the month of February for photographers, to allow for the best light and the romantically lit dawn and dusk landscape. Wherever we are in Myanmar, the morning and evening mist is a magical spectacle for landscape photographers and amidst the stunning settings of Myanmar, we are offered countless photographic opportunities that are sometimes utterly overwhelming in their beauty and magnificence.
With Myanmar now arousing more and more curiosity, and still being a relatively undiscovered destination, Light & Land ‘must’ travel to this extraordinary country as soon as possible. We hope you will join Phil and Clive in February 2017.

Testimonials

  • I would check a thrilled box if it were available. This tour exceeded my expectations.

  • Another great trip with Phil and Clive - they put so much effort and planning in to make sure we all had a fantastic time in Myanmar

  • Many thanks for a fantastic photo tour in Myanmar - I had a great time and it certainly lived up both to the standard you set on my first trip with you to Tuscany and to my own expectations. No matter how good the subject matter - the tour can only be as good as the example set by the leaders and you two were a great inspiration with your ability to see opportunities and to help us all keep going when we are in danger of flagging!

  • The trip went to all the places that regular tours go to AND then some.... and of course, made use of the special light at sunrise and sunset. My non-photographers friends want to go! They couldn't believe we travelled by plane, balloon and boat!

  • Clive and Phil are always ready to help and suggest, but they don't hover. They introduce you to knew ideas, whether on the SLR or iPhone!, in an easy manner, never overwhelming. I learned a few key ideas which i will practice in the next several months.

  • An extraordinary experience grounded in the care, the teaching and teamwork of Clive and Phil. I am so grateful to have been on this trip. They have found an wonderful local guide whom we called Shine. Hopefully that partnership will continue in the future. Shine offered us valuable insights into present-day Myanmar and its history!

  • Fabulous trip, superb guide, really good group, very attentive leaders

  • I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotels - traveling in a 3rd world country I had not expected the level of the accommodations we were offered.

  • Given the spread-out nature of our destinations, travel time was well planned, and I was very appreciative of the smooth way we got into and out of airports thanks to the assistance of our local guide, Shine. Great work!

  • This was my second trip with Clive and Phil - they are extraordinary leaders, both in terms of their talents in seeing images and offering photographic tips, as well as making everyone feel comfortable, at home and part of the group. I can't speak highly enough of them as a team and individually. My goal for the future is to take a trip with them each year, even though I come from 'across the pond' for it!

  • An outstanding experience, both from a life as well as a photographic perspective. Beautifully planned and executed. Kudos to everyone involved.

  • It was a great itinerary with a brilliant local guide, Shine who couldn't do enough for us. He made it all very easy.

  • Both Clive and Phil were brilliant. They complement each other well and they are equitable in their tuition to every member of the group,

  • Fabulous. It exceeded expectations. I was anxious as I'm a beginner and had a poor experience with Creative Escapes in Cuba. Clive was very sweet in talking to me on the phone before the tour, advising me on cameras etc. And he continued to encourage and support me throughout the tour.

  • It was a life changing experience, without a doubt, due to Phil and Clive, and for the better!!!!

  • I have just returned from the Myanmar tour with Clive and Phil. I cannot express how wonderful this trip was - the country and its people was marvellous, photo opportunities everywhere we looked, and the leadership, photography advice and organisation from Clive and Phil was second to none. In addition to all this, it was really great fun! I would fully recommend this tour to anyone contemplating it and would like to congratulate Light and Land for having the foresight to visit places which have only recently opened up and which in a few years time may have changed immeasurably. • This was a wonderful, unique and memorable trip to a beautiful country, filled with photography, fun and laughter and expertly led by Phil and Clive. Our tour guide Shine was also truly exceptional. Phil and Clive are very sensitive to each individual's needs and provide a non-intimidating, nurturing and fun environment where everyone can receive just the level of tuition and attention they are happy and comfortable with. The itinerary allowed us to see as much as possible of this wonderful country and lovely people in the time provided and at the same time not feel rushed. There was enough time at each location and it felt as if we had been away for months, so manifold and varied were the locations and photographic opportunities.

  • Well what can I say… yet another superb holiday and I enjoyed the whole trip as much as last year. It was an added bonus to visit some different places and I thought our whole group was great fun. Thank you both so very much for helping to make it such a rich experience and for encouraging me to look beyond the obvious photos. I am still sorting hundreds of images but know that some are much better than last year.

  • What can I say, apart from thank you so much for an amazing trip. Before we went I did wonder if perhaps we should have gone on an ordinary Cox & Kings type tour, but if we had we would have missed so much. No way would we have had time to stand and stare whilst watching the sunrise or enjoy the peace of a little visited temple. The experiences you were able to arrange for us were truly unique and provided us all with an extraordinary experience. I know that this doesn't happen by chance; it requires a great deal of work behind the scenes, for which I am very grateful. I also appreciated how generous you both were with your time and willingness to share your photographic skills. All in all a truly memorable trip - I can't quite believe I've been there! Thank you both. With best wishes.

  • A million thanks again for an amazing trip. It was the most wonderful journey.

  • Many thanks to you and Phil for making the trip so memorable. I had so many great experiences and as a novice photographer really appreciated the time you gave me. You have inspired me to step out of my photographic box. Very happy for you to circulate my email address.

  • Thank you for your email and group photo, a ray of Myanmar sunshine as I am wading through my admin! I love how the two of you are propping up the palm trees in the picture! To say that I have enjoyed myself on this wonderful trip would be a huge understatement, thank you both so much. I can't wait to go through my images once I have got the admin out of the way. With my very best wishes,

  • MANY THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU for making this trip so enjoyable and memorable. It was great meeting you two and I certainly enjoyed travelling with two other famous and popular photographers in Light and Land. If you don't mind, I will probably see you again on another trip or maybe to Myanmar again as it was such a great experience. Sorry I don't drink beer

  • One of the best 2 weeks of my life Clive and Phil. Thanks to you both.

  • Great, balanced itinerary. Phil and Clive are fantastic at telling you how each day will pan out, including free time, so you can pace yourselves, and they run the trip more or less bang on. I value this immensely, especially on a trip with so much internal travel.

  • The perfect pitch. Phil and Clive tailor their style brilliantly, working out who needs what, and always on hand when you need them or want some advice or inspiration. They filled all of us with passion for the place, and worked in harmony with their brilliant local guide, Shine. I guess I am a Phil and Clive groupie. I think there are a lot of us about, quite rightly. (Do we get a badge?)

  • I have travelled pretty widely, and on several L&L trips, but nothing compares to this one. Myanmar is a magical place, and Phil and Clive truly bring it to life, letting us see the heart of the country and come home with our hearts ringing for the place and our memory cards full. The care they put into their trips pays dividends. This was wonderful from beginning to end, and I can't wait to travel with them again. Can you start something in Latin America, chaps? Seriously, this was the perfect trip.

  • Once again, clive and Phil's hard work and excellent management skills made this tour a huge success. I was concerned aobut it being a new tour but needn't have worried; indeed this actually added to the adventure. We were so lucky to have our guide Shine and would recommend him in the future.

  • I found both tutors very happy to offer advice and I learnt a huge amount.

  • As a first time Light & Lander I was VERY impressed with the organisation; tutors and itinerary.
