In the series of tours ‘In the footsteps’ of great photographers, Peter Hendrie will be leading this tour to the magical Greek Island of Sifnos, following ‘in the footsteps’ of Henri Cartier-Bresson.
It was no accident that Cartier-Bresson was inspired to produce one of his most famous reportage images of all time, for this island in the Cyclades is filled with a timeless atmosphere, distinctive white architecture, narrow streets revealing secret surprises around every corner where highlights and shadows interlock with one another to produce remarkable geometric shapes to delight any photographer. One only need look at his world-famous photograph of Flora running home up the narrow steps, to understand why Cartier-Bresson loved this island so much. We will too, as we seek to unlock the same hidden secrets that he discovered a mere 55 years ago.
Our ‘in The Footsteps’ tour will be based in the town of Anthousa and together we will discover the dozen or so not-to-be-missed remarkable locations scattered throughout this small and easily accessible island.
Peter Hendrie led this tour for the first time alongside Charlie Waite, who has admired Cartier-Bresson’s style of photography for many years. In every location Peter will assist participants to identify the structures and compositional elements that Cartier-Bresson was so famous for. The locations lend themselves to monochrome so well and Peter will be sharing his insights into the discipline needed for making successful black and white images.
We anticipate that this innovative tour design will be very popular and we are excited to introduce to our Light & Land guests an island and a famed photographer’s work that together will stimulate our client’s photography to new heights.
Transport to the island is not included in the tour, however we can guide with suggestions for ferry travel.
Peter is a gifted tutor and his easy manner belies his great talent and depth of knowledge. He is constantly moving from one photographer to another, whether a beginner or advanced, helping them to obtain the very best from the scene in front of them. He became more than that though - to me, he became a very good friend.
Excellent tuition, fun group, brilliant hotel facilities, felt very well looked after
Peter is a natural tutor - very attentive, very conscious of everyone's needs, always willing to help and very encouraging. His own knowledge was very easily and clearly passed on. The fact that the group contained photographers at various levels was well handled.
Peter Hendrie is outstanding. His masterly organisation of absolutely every detail was extraordinary. His ability as an educator is second to none, he is a top flight tutor. at and above any other tour companies I have been with.
