Our Astrophotography tour in Exmoor, Europe's first International Dark Sky Reserve, will take place with Peter Hendrie in April 2023. Join Peter to witness and photograph the wonders of the universe in the Northern Hemisphere.

Dark sky awareness in the National Park gained strength in 2009 with a variety of programmes on astronomy and conservation held during UNESCO's International Year of Astronomy. Full status was gained in 2011 with the 81 square kilometres of core zone were chosen to minimise human habitation but to maximise open land access and points of interest including Bronze Age burial mounds, (Barrows) deserted medieval settlements, ancient woodlands and wide open Moorland with steep sided Combes and meandering rivers.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to capture images of the enormous universe that surrounds our beautiful planet? If so, the limitations are endless. (Subject to weather conditions), there are almost endless possibilities to photograph stars, planets, constellations, galaxies, meteors, stunning star-trail compositions along with other objects to discover as we look skywards on this photographic adventure after the sun descends beneath the horizon.

This is a small group limited to just 4 participants.

Astrophotography Tour - Exmoor Dark Sky Reserve Astrophotography

Because of the nature of this workshop (Shooting from Dusk to Dawn) we will be focusing on landscape astrophotography (photography incorporating the landscape and the night sky) with an emphasis on successfully capturing the Milky Way. Our aim is to arm you with all of the knowledge and understanding to be able to move forward on your own as a night-Sky photographer.

This tour is part of our Luxury Editions tour and is limited to four participants. You will be staying at the fabulous Exmoor White Horse Inn on a full board basis.

Mr Graham Ibbetson - 12th Aug, 2021

Beautiful location, Peter was a really knowledgeable leader. The only issue was the weather for Astro photography that Peter seemed to blame himself for - but at least we got one good night. The landscape alternative due to the cloud cover, ran at night was really useful and I learned a great deal

Mr Laurence Osborne - 22nd Jul, 2021

Desperately disappointing that the weather was against us and we never saw a single star - somewhat an essential on a specialist astro photography course. Having said that, Peter was a very good host, and took us to locations on Exmoor during the day as an alternative. Also, the critique session on participants' images on the Sunday morning was well worth doing.

Julia Moffett - 24th Aug, 2020

Despite the bad weather which made astro photography (except for a lucky hour on night one) pretty much impossible, Peter adopted plan B and we did some rewarding daytime landscapes instead... on beautiful Exmoor with the heather at its peak! The hospitality and food at The White Horse was brilliant as usual... and reassuring Covid precautions all in place

Mr Peter Burke - 20th Oct, 2021

This was an excellent 2-day workshop. The only reason I haven't given it a "5" is that adverse weather prevented a second evening of astro photography, but that's no fault of L&L!

Barry Coventry - 30th Jun, 2022

Peter is the most attentive leader. Locations were good and accommodation first class. Highly recommend this tour but wrap up in very warm clothes!

Ian Asprey - 30th Jun, 2022

A very knowledgeable guide and a very comfortable hotel with great food. Hospitality was excellent and all staff friendly and helpful. Locations for photography was great and he chased the weather to get the best from the locations
