Our Bath photography workshop 'Creative Photography Meets Christmas' will take place in December with Bill Ward and Astrid McGechan. Nestled in a cosy corner of the south west of England, and only an hour and a half on the train from the capital, Bath has one of the most atmospheric and photogenic city centres in the UK. Blessed with some of the finest Georgian architecture this country has to offer, including the famed Royal Crescent, Pulteney Bridge et al, it’s a treasure trove of historical quirk and charm. And at Christmas time, with its host of independent shops and restaurants, it truly comes alive.
Our tour will concentrate on developing our skills in what are often referred to as “Creative Photography” techniques, in particular Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) and In Camera Multiple Exposures.
Your guides for the day, Bill and Astrid, have been leading practitioners of both for over a decade.

Bath Photography Workshop - Creative Photography Meets Christmas
One of the big advantages of Bath is the compact layout of the city itself: a short walk takes you across the city centre, from the River Avon and Bath Abbey in the East to the Royal Crescent in the north west. It’s a glorious Georgian backdrop, perfect for Creative Photography - and it’s all in play!

Bill is a regular writer/contributor for the worldwide ICM Photography Magazine, and is particularly evangelical about the ability of Creative Photography to get right under the skin of a place, a time, a feeling, and reveal their very essence.
An actor by training, Bill is well versed in the creative process, the benefits of working with an open mind, the joy of improvising and going with what you’re given. He’s particularly interested in working on the fly: staying in the moment, seeing what comes up on the back of the camera, and using it as a springboard for an unknown destination.

Astrid has been working in cities for several years and is able to guide you in utilising Creative Photography techniques to build your story of the day, including using ICM, multiple exposures and reflections, both in camera and with your mobile phone. She believes that letting go of your preconceptions and expectations of what you’ll find in a place will help you to develop your vision and to work outside the box.
Bill and Astrid will be at hand throughout the day to ensure you’ll return home with images that are truly yours and express your view of this wonderful city.
The day will begin at 10am and finish at approx 5pm.
