Our Birmingham photography workshop with Lee Filters wiil take place in November 2021 with Verity Milligan. Although the Birmingham skyline has been much maligned over the years, this workshop aims to demonstrate that there are many photogenic areas to the city. Birmingham is a city of juxtapositions and your workshop leader has spent the last decade getting to know Birmingham and documenting its evolution into the modern European metropolis. This intricate knowledge of the City means that you will get a unique insight into Birmingham’s urban sprawl, from modern, abstract architecture to the serenity of the Grand Union Canal.

This workshop will focus on the use of filters and how they can enhance imagery of the architecture & buzz of the city. There will be opportunities to capture long exposures of the passing trams or abstract reflections in the city’s numerous water features. This workshop will teach the power of filters to enhance a scene, focusing on the use of a few that the workshop leader uses regularly. These include the humble circular polariser which can be a powerful tool for reducing and enhancing reflections, depending on the subject matter. There will also be a focus on ND (neutral density) & ND graduated filters which can be used to great creative effect.

Birmingham Photography Workshop - Birmingham Cityscape Photography

Although the Birmingham skyline has been much maligned over the years, this workshop aims to demonstrate that there are many photogenic areas to the city. There will also be a focus on ND (neutral density) & ND graduated filters which can be used to great creative effect.

We’ll explore parts of Birmingham that you might not ever have considered photographing before, from the serenity of Gas Street Basin to the grandeur of the Library of Birmingham situated in the newly redeveloped Centenary Square. There will be plenty of opportunities to photograph the juxtaposing architecture and get the most out of filters to capture Birmingham in a brand new, fascinating light.

Lee Filters will provide filter kits for participants to use during the workshop.
