The Rocky Mountains are among the most spectacular ranges on the planet. In the state of Colorado, they are rivalled only by the Canadian Rockies in terms of beauty and sheer size.  We will explore lakes, rivers and summits surrounded by one of the great colour displays in nature, aspen trees in the fall. This epic landscape is transformed as mountains glow under the changing foliage at different altitudes. The summits may well be dusted with the first snows, foretelling winter. It is no surprise that this is playground of many of the world’s greatest landscape photographers.

Fall in Colorado - Leading Lights

The Rocky Mountains are among the most spectacular ranges on the planet. In the state of Colorado, they are rivalled only by the Canadian Rockies in terms of beauty and sheer size.  We will explore lakes, rivers and summits surrounded by one of the great colour displays in nature, aspen trees in the fall. This epic landscape is transformed as mountains glow under the changing foliage at different altitudes. The summits may well be dusted with the first snows, foretelling winter. It is no surprise that this is playground of many of the world’s greatest landscape photographers.

Our journey begins in the highly exclusive city of Aspen. Famed for its skiing in winter Aspen is possibly even more beautiful in fall, the Rocky Mountains may be snow capped and beneath them, stands of glowing woodland can reach as far as the eye can see. From our base in Aspen, we will explore the Snowmass region including the area around Maroon Bells and the many miles of pristine groves along Maroon Creek Road. We have several mountain passes around us on this tour and from Aspen, we will also be close to a few that are over 12,000 feet in elevation. This is a rise in elevation should ensure we can position ourselves in the midst of the fall colour. There are other locations from Aspen we may visit depending upon our timing and current fall conditions which vary year on year.

From Aspen, we travel south and west to the town of Ridgeway. Here our photographic options are absolutely tremendous. As well as iconic landscapes such as Dallas Divide and Red Mountain there are many back country roads to be driven amongst some of the most beautiful mountain peaks on earth. During these dates in the fall, the peaks are often snow covered and occasionally we may have snow lower down the mountains as well. This fusion of mountain splendour at its most colourful, along with more intimate natural phenomena in the forest, as well as old homesteads and abandoned agricultural scenes from a by-gone age provide a feast of photographic opportunities. We will travel small distances from our base in Ridgeway to ensure we experience this part of the Colorado Rockies in as much depth as we can. We will almost certainly spend some time in historic pioneering towns such as Ouray and Telluride to sample coffee and reflect on scenery so unfamiliar to our northern European eyes.

Places are limited due to 4x4 vehicles to get us into locations off the beaten track in the wild back country. Please book early to avoid disappointment

This is a Leading lights tour which means it has a ratio of four clients per leader, ensuring maximum tuition time for each individual.
