Golden Heart of England Photography Tour - Cotswolds and London

This special tour will take in the glorious Cotswold’s region for seven full packed days experiencing the charm of the Cotswolds and four days in bustling London.

If you were to ask any English person ‘tell me, where is the most beautiful area in the England? 99% would reply ‘why the Cotswold’s of course’! If you were to ask the same question of any English photographer especially a landscape photographer, they may well reply ‘what kind of dumb question is that?’

But what is it that gives this remarkable region such a five star reputation?  The people? They are as friendly, humorous and hospitable as any other. The pubs, the wonderful ‘old world’ charm and comfort of the hotels? They are famous enough.

The shops that sell distinctive products that are not available anywhere else in the country?

All of these important points are true yet what is it that draws visitors to this astonishing region? From a photographer’s perspective, it is without doubt one the most extraordinary photogenic areas not only in England but also in Europe.

Quite simply one word is suffice to describe it: beautiful.

From glowing honey Jurassic limestone from which every one of the classic villages are built to intimate rolling hills, to secret corners that even the locals may not know; the English Cotswold’s is rightfully regarded as the heart of England and rightfully the region of which it is most proud. In 1966 the Cotswold’s were designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty; hardly surprising really as much of this stunningly lovely region has stood just the way it was built around 500 years ago!

Light & Land knows the Cotswolds intimately. Our office is just one hour’s drive away, it is pretty much our backyard!

After your week in the Cotswold’s, you’ll travel to London with Charlie by private transfer.

London is a stunning city for us as photographers to visit and our days there will be filled with opportunities to make great images and learn new photographic techniques. Our subjects will be the people, the buildings, and of course, the light itself. London is blessed with an enormity of photographic locations some old some new, each though unique in its appeal to our visual senses.

Our goal is to enable you to photograph as many of London’s best locations as possible over the few days we have together, some locations may be visited more than once if the light or conditions justify it. (Some are great in the daytime but have a totally different feel after dark, for example).

So our locations will include some of the following :

Tower bridge, St Katherines Dock, London Bridge, the Shard, Borough Market, More London, the Gherkin, Lloyds, Leadenhall market, St Dunstans in the East, St Pauls, the Millennium Bridge, the Southbank, Waterloo bridge, Tate modern, Tate Britain, Heals, the British museum, Canary wharf, Millwall Docks, Camden, Greenwich Park and Hampstead heath….

We have the perfect base, our hotel is just five minutes walk from Tower Bridge and the river Thames, and we are just 10 minutes walk from the heart of the City of London.  All other locations will be reached using the underground tube network, buses and in some instances, Black Taxis.

The days shooting itinerary will be assessed each evening with consideration to weather conditions so that we can get the best out of each location.

We will make the most of the daylight but also take in the special feel London has before and after sunset, but don’t worry there will be extended breaks In order that we can recoup and shoot through to Sunset and beyond.

For this high-end photography tour, we have taken the ‘best’ hotels in the regions and employed the services of the ‘best’ guides who will be on hand for anything we might need to know from history to tales of 15th-century goings on. But more importantly, the very man who started Light & Land will join you for the duration of the tour. Charlie Waite has published over 30 books on landscape Photography, has made numerous TV appearances and too many international exhibitions to count including New York and Carmel.  Charlie will be your photography tutor whilst in the Cotswold’s and London.  For the final stage of the tour, Charlie will be joined by one of the few men in the UK who has held the hugely privileged position of Picture Editor of The Times newspaper, Paul Sanders.  A short conversation with Paul would reveal stories behind photographs, the like of which you would never have heard. Both Charlie and Paul will be on hand to guide and instruct some of the many finer points of photography.

For these two distinguished photographers, it is much more the case of intentionality rather than serendipity.

Their obsession with craft and skillful and intended composition is well known and between them, they will always be on hand to hold your hand when needed.

Come and join us in May 2019 to immerse yourselves into photographic joy in quintessential England and be amongst a small group of just ten fellow photographers for what promises to be one of the best weeks of photography you could ever wish for.
