On the central West Coast of Greenland lies one of the planets hidden gems- Disko Bay. This week-long tour will be based in the small town of Ilulissat, the gateway to explore the incredible Disko Bay.

The Kangia Glacier, situated in the ice fjord close to Ilulissat, is the most active iceberg producing glacier in the northern hemisphere. From this glacier, icebergs the size of towns, calve away and begin their journey into the open ocean. From our base in the town, we are ideally situated to photograph the landscape and the icebergs, from both on the water and from the shoreline.

Our group will spend time on small boats photographing everything from the buildings and settlements, to the giant icebergs in the bay and out into open water. In mid-summer the water tends to be very calm and the icebergs themselves create protection from the deep water swell, leading to still water and very often reflections also, both of which are great to photograph.

As an option, we will do our very best to put together an option to fly over the glaciers, ice bergs and the mighty ice cap itself. Depending on the group decision this may be using light aircraft, helicopters or even a combination of both. From above, all of these become even more incredible, particularly the rivers and pools of deep blue against the white ice.

Our hotel is the world’s northernmost 4 star hotel. The views from the rooms are absolutely breathtaking, with icebergs far bigger than the hotel itself, in the distance.

Please note, there are very limited roads to and from Ilulissat. As a result we will not have a vehicle for this tour. We will spend time walking around the town and exploring all near by locations on foot.  A reasonable degree of fitness will be required in order to do this element of the tour.
