Our Isle of Skye photography tour will take place in September 2022 with Mark McColl. Situated on the northwest coast of Scotland, the Isle of Skye is an absolute gem for landscape photography. Skye has some of the most incredible scenery in the world, and in addition to the unique geology, dramatic changeable light makes this area so compelling for making landscape images.

During this workshop we will explore as much of Skye as we can, taking time to photograph the play of light on the mountains and rapidly changing weather. The Storr and the Quiraing are relatively close to our base and offer incredible potential for landscape images. The Storr can be photographed from ground level with several compositions easily accessible on foot. Other areas that we can visit during our stay include Talisker bay, the Fairy Glen, Glen Sligachan, the Fairy Pools, Neist point with its dramatic lighthouse, and the fabulous beach at Elgol with views across to the Cuillin mountains. Most of these locations are within an hour or so of our base.

Isle of Skye Photography Tour - Isle of Skye Landscape Photography

We will keep our itinerary completely flexible so that we can adapt to the prevailing weather whilst on our workshop. Expect and prepare for changeable weather – it will probably rain at some point, although hopefully showers will blow through and be followed by sunshine. If the weather forecast is favourable, we will be up for dawn light and would plan to shoot through until sunset. We will include some down-time for rest, as days are long even in September this far north.

Fitness level required:

Moderate – most of the locations are easily accessible on foot and within a short distance of the tour vehicle. Walking will often be on uneven ground, so trips, slips and falls are a potential hazard. We will not be attempting any significant hill or mountain climbing.
