After three superbly successful tours in February 2014, 2015 and 2016 and a fully booked tour in 2017, Phil and Clive will be returning to this stunning country at the same time in 2018.

With its harmonious combination of breathtaking and unspoilt natural landscapes, Myanmar is a unique destination for photographers. The fascination of the country lies in the mystery of its history and religion, which offers to visitor’s marvelous ancient cities, enhanced by literally thousands of old Pagodas and magnificent temples. The remains of Myanmar’s glorious past is to be seen everywhere we look. There is no doubt that Myanmar contains the richest archaeological sites in Southeast Asia.

But this “Golden Land” has so much more and boasts an abundance of wonderful landscapes thanks to the majesty of its sweeping mountain ranges, its serene lakes, mighty rivers and its lush rain forests.
The people of this remarkable country always offer spontaneous smiles and immediate trusting and generous friendship. They are a radiant people and every meeting seems to enrich us in some way.
Light & Land has developed a very specific tour that will cover many of the celebrated, photographic locations and some of the lesser known and more remote ones.

We will be visiting and photographing Yangon (our arrival port) and then onward to Bagan, set on the eastern bank of Ayeyarwaddy River and the once splendid and glorious capital of the First Myanmar Empire. It is impossible to believe but 26 square kilometers are dotted with thousands of ancient pagodas, shrines and monuments that date back very many centuries. In many cases, we will be able to climb up a few steps inside the pagodas for panoramas that will leave us in a state of silent wonder; such is the truly unbelievable nature of this completely unfamiliar landscape.

Onward to Mandalay with its famous 1000 metre wooden bridge for breath taking photography at dawn and dusk and of course not to be missed, the stunning Mahamuni Monastery with its spectacular gold encrusted Buddha and highly polished floors and columns that offer endless compositional opportunities. We will also visit the area where highly skilled artisans hand-carve stone Buddhas for export all over the world and we will spend time with the nomadic river gypsies at Casino Island where entire family groups make their living by manufacturing everything imaginable from bamboo.

From Mandalay, our journey will take us to yet another prize location, the celestial Inle Lake. Our accommodation where we will remain for three nights seems to have grown almost organically from the shallow lakebed itself. Our private boat will be with us for the duration allowing 360-degree photography and the rare opportunities to have our boat maneuver to our wishes. Inle Lake, with its outrageously picturesque settings made up of floating villages and gardens is truly a photographer’s paradise.

We have chosen the month of February for photographers, to allow for the best light and the romantically lit dawn and dusk landscape. Wherever we are in Myanmar, the morning and evening mist is a magical spectacle for landscape photographers and amidst the stunning settings of Myanmar, we are offered countless photographic opportunities that are sometimes utterly overwhelming in their beauty and magnificence.
With Myanmar now arousing more and more curiosity, and still being a relatively undiscovered destination, Light & Land ‘must’ travel to this extraordinary country as soon as possible. We hope you will join Phil and Clive in February 2018.
