Resting at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the grand city of Granada sits 700m above the sea and offers an expansive view of the sprawling plains to the west - friends and enemies alike have little chance of making a surprise visit. This enviable geographical position has made the land here understandably attractive to military powers since history began. Despite its advantages though, the city has passed through the hands of Bronze Age settlers as well as Roman, Moorish, Berber, Muslim, Arabic and Catholic empires, with each successive occupier firmly leaving a mark on the architecture, food and culture of the city.

Granada & Alhambra Photography Tour - Red Palace in a Sea of Vibrant Culture
The crowning glory of the city surely is the world-famous Alhambra – a deep red complex of stunning palaces, fortifications and gardens that sits above the city and looks out over the surrounding countryside. The building of this UNESCO World Heritage Site was started in 1238 by the Emir Muhammad I Ibn al-Ahmar and offers some of the best preserved Islamic architecture and decoration on the planet.
During this tour, we’ll spend a whole day in the Alhambra photographing some of the most incredible architecture you’ll have ever seen. We’ll take our time as we pass through the grand palaces and grounds to ensure we get shots that really do it justice and to soak in the atmosphere. As well as shooting inside the complex, we’ll also enjoy spectacular sunset views of the famous walls from the popular Mirador de San Nicolas across the valley.
Granada isn’t just about the Alhambra though, as the city offers more photographic attractions than it is possible to count. We’ll visit the astonishing Spanish Renaissance Cathedral whose style stands apart from most of the ecclesiastical architecture of Europe, and we’ll feast on the abundance of photographic opportunities that present themselves in the narrow ancient streets of the city and the Alcaiceria Arabic market area. We’ll visit the inhabited caves of the Sacromonte district and enjoy an evening meal at a colourful and exciting flamenco show deep within the rock of the mountainside.
Granada is a city of astounding beauty, and its history is visible in the most profound way at every turn – in its buildings, its décor, its people and its wonderful food. You’re going to need a big memory card for this one.
