Round the Island Boat Race

Join Carla for an exciting weekend on the Isle of Wight, starting with the annual Round the Island Race - the largest race of its kind with around 16,000 professional and amateur sailors.

We are very lucky to have secured a private rib for the largest and most spectacular sailing event, where the boats circumnavigate the island, with over 1500 colourful boats out on the water for us to photograph. We will have the best seats in the house on our own rib with a skipper, to photograph the boats as they come past the most photogenic view of the Isle of wight - The Needles. With these colourful boats passing the white cliffs and lighthouse, we can position the rib in as many positions as possible to allow everyone plenty of opportunity to photograph these stunning boats, the amazing views around us; and of course the crew operating the boats, all of which can make for some amazing photographs.
We will be out on the water for as much of the day as possible but will have sole use of the rib. Our skipper will be bringing us ashore for lunch and at any times we need to rest – we may even see something we want to photograph from shore as we travel around this beautiful little island.

There will be oil skins on board for everyone. camera equipment will need waterproof covers and plenty of cloths to keep the front of your lenses clean!

Carla is used to being on the water with her camera, owning a fishing boat in Cornwall and regularly taking clients out on this, as well as photographing on the water for large events such as the JClass yachts and the Tall ships, so she has plenty of experience. Carla will be on the rib with you to ensure you all get some fantastic shots!

Following our exciting trip out on the rib, our second day is on dry land around the stunning area of Bembridge.  Located on the east coast of the Isle of Wight, we have plenty of places to photograph during our second day. Practising some long exposure techniques and filter use with the RNLI lifeboat house out on stilts leading across the Solent, a stunning traditional windmill in the countryside and even a church structure of Old St Helen’s Church located along by the sea.  We also have sand dunes and sea defences to enjoy as well and can work through a variety of techniques throughout the day.  If we do encounter any bad weather we can of course look at editing techniques if you wish to bring a laptop with you.

This tour is limited to 4 people to ensure everyone gets a good view from the rib.

On the Saturday we will be meeting our skipper at Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, with this set we advise all clients to stay on the island for the evening before to ensure no time delay on the morning of the race.  We are awaiting race start confirmation times and this could be as early as a 5am start which is why it is advisable to be on the Island on the Friday evening.

For the return ferry journeys on the Sunday please book a late afternoon crossing where we will depart together, Carla's crossing time is 16:20pm.
