The Lake District is undoubtedly one of the finest places to photograph in the UK, if not the world. Ideally located near to the town of Keswick, the Borrowdale Hotel serves as the perfect base for our Lake District photography tour and to explore some of the different parts of the Lake District. This includes the areas around Derwent Water such as Walla Crag and Castlerigg Stone Circle, Bassenthwaite Lake and amazing views of the ever imposing Blencathra and Skiddaw mountains.

The Lake District Photography Tour

The Lake District is undoubtedly one of the finest places to photograph in the UK, if not the world. Ideally located near to the town of Keswick, the Borrowdale Hotel serves as the perfect base for our Lake District photography tour and to explore some of the different parts of the Lake District. This includes the areas around Derwent Water such as Walla Crag and Castlerigg Stone Circle, Bassenthwaite Lake and amazing views of the ever imposing Blencathra and Skiddaw mountains.

We will spend as much time in the field as possible photographing the varied landscapes the Lake District has to offer. Weather permitting we will trek up some of the lower fells such as Loughrigg Fell that takes in three impressive and picturesque lakes in the space of a few miles. A reasonable level of fitness and agility will be required but the rewards are spectacular with views and potential compositions in all directions. Getting up high and off the beaten track allows us to truly immerse ourselves and get a deeper understanding of the landscape. This feeling can then easily be translated into your photographs to assist in telling the story of this ancient landscape.

There are opportunities for photography from dusk until dawn and we will look to maximise our use of the light.

For Dawn we will be in position on two of the three mornings, weather permitting, before returning to the hotel for breakfast after sunrise. This is entirely optional. After breakfast, we will head out again, with packed lunches, until after sunset before returning in the evening for a well earned evening meal.

The plan will be to head out each day to a parking location before heading out on foot and getting ‘off the beaten track’. This includes hiking up some of the lower fells (around 400m), weather and safety permitting and walking approximately five to eight miles per day.

The nature of the Lake District, the mountains and the weather means we will remain flexible and discuss plans for each day the evening before.

After dinner, we will retire to the lounge/bar where we can sit together, post-process our images and share stories of the day. This will be completely informal and voluntary but is a good chance for critique and to brush up on your editing skills. It is a fun, safe and supportive environment in which to share your work and is a good way to consolidate learning and carry it into the next day.

Many thanks again to you both for a most enjoyable, informative and inspiring day. You were a pleasure to meet and it was also most interesting to hear about your own work. Your notes look very complete and I will study them over time. I was looking again last night at your own websites and enjoyed reading about your own influences. I wish you both continued success with your photography and look forward to meeting you again. Tamara - February, 2017

The tutors worked very well together. They had just the right balance between technical advice and advice on composition. They also balanced advice, business and friendliness just right, so that the group worked well. November, 2015

Another great Light and Land tour. The Lake District looked amazing with Autumn colour and we got to some great locations to take full advantage led by two highly skilled and very approachable tour leaders - Clive and Phil November, 2015
