Our Infrared photography workshop in North Devon will take place in May 2024. North Devon offers many opportunities for Infrared photography in Black & White and Colour. Infrared has an ability to capture dramatic skies and I am often drawn to them. More recently, I have been spending time in the amazing dunes we have all along the North Devon coast. I have been exploring ways to capture them in Black & White and also in colour. At this time of year the Infrared levels are not as extreme as peak summer and that leads to more subtle contrasts in the landscape, trees and grasses. Set against dark or dramatic skies, we see a whole new aesthetic, far removed from conventional photographic images.

These images are developed using Lightroom or Photoshop. Capturing and editing Infrared images is only slightly different from conventional photography, so you will adapt quickly. Editing infrared images does require a different approach. You can use Photoshop or Lightroom to process your images but if you are a Lightroom user, I will share with you a method of processing colour infrared images in Lightroom that normally requires Photoshop.

This workshop combines shooting, editing and printing. We are a small group and will divide our time creatively depending on the conditions. We will have access to a professional printer and a selection of fine art papers and you will be able to take home 4-6 A3 prints.

Ideally you should bring a converted camera but it is possible to shoot Infrared using an R72 filter on a conventional camera. You will almost certainly need a tripod with this approach. If you are unsure, please ask.

Start and End: The workshop starts at 2pm on the first day and ends at 4pm on the last day.
