Tuscany has been a favourite destination with Light & Land clients for over a decade now. It is a region with fabulous photographic opportunities - the sculptural cypresses, the picturesque, gently decaying buildings scattered - as if by an artist’s hand - across the softly rolling landscape and the beautiful Renaissance architecture of jewel-like cities such as Pienza and Siena.
Phil Malpas and Clive Minnitt jointly led their first Tuscany photography tour in 2007 and it was hailed by the participants as a great success. As well as highlights such as the timeless church at Sant’Antimo and the incomparable Campo in Siena, they are looking forward to taking clients to a number of new locations which will excite those looking to photograph more of Tuscany’s hidden secrets.

Tuscany Photography Tour
Tuscany has been a favourite destination with Light & Land clients for over a decade now. It is a region with fabulous photographic opportunities – the sculptural cypresses, the picturesque, gently decaying buildings scattered - as if by an artist’s hand - across the softly rolling landscape and the beautiful Renaissance architecture of jewel-like cities such as Pienza and Siena.
It feels almost as if five hundred years ago a group of Italians sat down and decided that they would make this corner of their land perfect for photographers. We were the first tour company to start taking clients to photograph sights such as the famous Belvedere, now more than twenty tours ago. We pride ourselves that in some small measure we have been responsible for making some of these views iconic images known across the world.
Phil & Clive jointly led their first Tuscany photography tour in 2007 and it was hailed by the participants as a great success.
Highlights such as the timeless church at Sant’Antimo and the incomparable Campo in Siena are ‘must do’s’. Within forty kilometres of our base are countless beautiful and ancient small towns and villages for us to explore: the utopian “New Town” of Pienza, built on Papal edict and crammed with fabulous buildings, the perfect marble church of San Biagio at Montepulciano and the quiet, unspoilt San Quirico – each have their own beauty, each offer great photographic opportunities.
Phil and Clive will also look forward to taking clients to a number of new locations, which will excite those looking to photograph more of Tuscany’s hidden secrets.
We will travel around the beautiful Tuscan landscape in a spacious people carrier and you will be able to photograph to your hearts content under the leaders’ expert guidance. Participants are invited to bring along their work for a friendly and insightful appraisal. There will be facilities to conduct critique sessions and Phil and Clive will show some of their own images as well as giving talks on a number of photographic topics.
Staying at Residence Casanova for 7 nights.
I had a great time of course, and you were both fantastic hosts and it is clear how long your days are and the effort you put into it - very much appreciated. Having shown my wife a picture of the pool midweek, she is less sure, however, of the exertions we all made! David O'Brian - June, 2018
What an utterly fantastic tour! You and Phil bust a gut (as you usually do) to sort out all the changes needed for the weather and to keep our spirts up at 5 am every morning. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. It was everything I could have hoped for - and more. Funny though, I can't seem to remember much of Friday morning. Some silly person ventured that I was asleep by my tripod for 40 minutes. Can't possibly be true, can it? When I told my son, I thought he'd burst as he laughed so much. If you are allowed to release a copy to me of any photo he'd love to see it. I'll promise though, not to show the camera club, as I'm sure they know Light and Land for their action-packed tours, not a rest home for the retired Colin Mahoney - June, 2018
Thankyou Clive for your message and good wishes. John and I had a brilliant time with you, Phil and the rest of the group. It is amazing how you rise to the challenge of such diverse needs within the group so that everyone feels they have benefitted from your expertise. I certainly have many things to take away from the experiences you gave us and hopefully my photography will improve some more. We are seriously considering the Scotland trip. Best Wishes Hazel Price - June, 2018
Thanks for making this such an enjoyable & inspiring experience. Regards. Alastair Colvin - June, 2018
This really was a fantastico adventure, I loved every minute and am still smiling, those silly moments a wonderful foil for those breathtaking views. Who knew I would take up Morris Dancing. I am now looking forward to going through my images, I am sure there will be a few that I am super pleased with, all thanks to you two super heroes! (No need to don the pants over the trousers)! All best wishes and grazie molto. Helen Otton - June, 2018
I’d personally like to thank you both for your caring support for the pair of us, even before you were aware of the cause of our anxiety, and particularly for your help in making the arrangements for our early departure; we are most grateful. We had a trouble-free return journey and once we have our immediate activities out of the way I am sure that we will both share some images. Thanks for a great tour! Best wishes Tony Teague - June, 2018
Thanks for such an amazing week - you and Phil were incredible leaders - and what a wonderful group we had. I feel very lucky to have been part of it. Really appreciated all the time you two took with me - I learned so much - and it was such fun. Arrived in Firenze yesterday - and off to Bologna tomorrow - then to Venice for 4 days. So glad you two finally got home - what an ordeal - hope all goes smoothly for Santorini! Bestest Margie - June, 2017
A most enjoyable trip and so well looked after by Clive and Phil....... coping with one logistics nightmare after another! and still smiling and great company. Julia - June, 2017
Many thanks to Clive and Phil for ensuring that we made our flight, the check in desk wasn't even open when we arrived at the airport so we were there in plenty of time. The flight was delayed by half an hour but this is nothing compared to your problems. We had a wonderful time so many thanks to you and Phil for all your efforts. Alan and Julie - June, 2017
Thank you for your help with my photographic efforts. I may not have ended up with masterpieces but the one thing the trip showed me was how to look for and use the light. Cheryl - June, 2017
Thanks to you and Phil for organising a very enjoyable trip. Hopefully will have some images to share soon! Chris - June, 2017
Had a great trip, all thanks to you and Phil for all your hard work (as usual). Hope you get back safely and have enough time to recover before the next one! Jayne, your Bagno Vignoni Aficionado!! Jayne - June, 2017
This was a fantastic tour to a beautiful location with a lovely group of people and two first class leaders. As well as being fantastic individuals Phil and Clive are extremely gifted tour leaders and tutors. Their performance is consistently at the highest level, attentive without being intrusive, and consistently aware of the different levels of skill amongst the group members. As well as the location photography I found the daily critique sessions of group members' work to be of interest and value, especially as it was carried out in such a friendly and constructive atmosphere. A thoroughly enjoyable tour - loved the photography, the hotel, the food, our lovely group - not forgetting the guys wonderful sense of humour. I didn't want to leave! Phil and Clive always gave 110% to the group - always on hand to assist in whatever way they could, be it advice on composition or technical information. They put their clients first. The hotel was centrally located so travelling times were kept to a minimum. With the long days the afternoon breaks were very welcome. I like the detailed itinerary received after the trip - helps to jog the memory making it easy to place where each photo was taken. June, 2016
I have just returned from a magical holiday to Tuscany, somewhere I have always wanted to see. I wanted to make sure I went with the right photography company to make sure I made the most of my experience. I haven't been away with Light and Land for many years and I am so glad I went with them. Phil Malpas and Clive Minnitt were warm and welcoming and couldn't do enough for all of the group. I have learnt so much from both of them this week. I cannot recommend Light and Land highly enough, especially if Phil and Clive are the leaders, you will have a blast. You know that scene in Gladiator when he's walking back to his home through the wheat fields, and he lets the grain heads brush through his hands? Yeah, I want to do that, well I have now done that. When Phil mentioned to me in the minibus where we were going I had tears in my eyes and the hair of the back of my neck stood up. A location to tick of my bucket list. I am so very happy. June, 2016
Phil and Clive were, as always, completely dedicated to providing the best experience possible for every member of the group. Nothing is too much for them. Wonderful locations, great people and lots and lots and lots of FUN. May, 2016
I cannot praise Phil and Clive highly enough. Very professional with great people skills mixed with humour and knowledge. A lot of thought had obviously been put into the itinerary with the hotel well placed so there was not too much travelling to locations unlike other companies I have travelled with. May, 2016
f I could rate my 'overall satisfaction' with the tour as 'ecstatic,' I would do so. Clive and Phil are superb tour leaders. They were always available to help us make better images, whether it was with technical tips or compositional suggestions. High organized but without making anyone feel regimented. The opportunity for critiques of our individual work was wonderful. And they are simply wonderful people to spend time with. Five stars!! May, 2015
Both individually and as a team I found Clive and Phil to be remarkable men. They truly put the group's photography before their own. It was like having a private tutor, if you wanted one. They responded to each person's desires and interests on an individual basis. They are patient, kind, and gifted teachers and the communication between them was a joy to be around. They also like to have fun and we laughed a lot. May, 2015
Thank you isn’t a strong enough word for the week in Tuscany. It was way above what I was expecting. I think it was just about the best trip I’ve been on. Good group, great food , and you two as leaders made it just perfect. I’ve had a quick look through my shots are there are some I`m quite chuffed with, You certainly laid on some great photo opportunities for us. It will be fine to pass on my email address. Thanks again for a BRILLIANT week. May, 2014
Thank you both very much for an excellent, memorable and fun week in Tuscany. It may sound over ambitious but I had hoped it would kick start my new journey in photography – and it surely did. You were both so patient and encouraging and I can see by comparing my images from day 2 to day 7 just how much I had learned. So much so that I feel ready to go back and start all over again! And I don’t remember an evening when I have laughed as much as we did last Friday. May, 2014
As leaders go Clive and Phil made this trip one of the best weeks of my life. Their attention to detail is superb and each one offers so much to the well being of the group. Evenings are fun with everyone feeling a part of the group. Phil's technical expertise marries well with Clive's eye for a picture and the two make a formidable team. Well done to Light and Land for another wonderful week of photography and fun. October, 2012
