Nearly a year in the planning we are delighted to announce a brand new tour to be led by Clive & Phil to Vietnam, an exciting, self-confident rising star that as recently as the 1990’s chose to keep the world at bay.

Carefully designed to include the very best of this remarkable country, with its breath-taking natural beauty, enticing culture and truly wonderful people, our 12-night tour will be based in five different locations with the longer journeys being covered by internal flights.

We begin our tour in the capital Hanoi. Here we will contrast the manic, action-packed streets of the city with the peaceful, tranquil beauty of the surrounding villages where we will have the opportunity to meet local people and admire the centuries old architecture. We will have three full days to explore with our cameras during which we will discover the labyrinthine Old Quarter and enjoy the south east Asian, French and Chinese influences that combine to make a fascinating start to our tour.

On day 5 we transfer by coach to the spectacular World Heritage site at Halong Bay. Here our private boat will be our home for an afternoon and a morning (including one night on-board) and will be our platform to discover the bay where “the dragon descends into the sea”. The emerald green waters are dotted with jungle-topped islands that, legend has it, were carved out by the thrashing dragon as he charged from the mountains to the coast.

On our return to land we will travel via Hanoi airport where we will take the short (80 minute) flight south to Danang before transferring to our next location Hoi An. Hoi An was a major Asian trading port in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and its architecture and relaxed lifestyle have changed little over the years. During the day we will take a walking tour of the ancient town centre to visit the former merchants’ homes, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge, a Chinese communal hall and the colourful market. In the evening, we will enjoy photographing the highlight of our visit to Hoi An, the famous lantern festival.

Another short (90 minute) flight will deliver us to the amazing Ho Chi Minh City (still commonly referred to as Saigon by its 8 million or so inhabitants). The commercial centre of the country and a dizzying, eclectic mix of old and new, HCMC is the driving force behind Vietnam’s sense of optimism and excitement for the future. Here we will have time to explore the bustling streets where an “if you blink you’ll miss it” hustle and bustle will provide endless subjects for our cameras.

After 2 nights in the city, we will move to the relative peace and tranquillity of Can Tho – our gateway to the Mekong Delta. Here, once again, we take to the water for early visits to the amazing “floating markets” where the waterways become a maze of hundreds of boats packed with mango, bananas, papaya, pineapple, and even floating pho (noodle soup) vendors.

Finally, we return to Ho Chi Minh for our last night in this wonderful country before heading home, with a mind filled with wonderful, exotic memories and our collections of photographs to immortalize them.

The weather in Vietnam varies dramatically, both from month to month and also from location to location (the country covers a full 16 degrees (well over 1000 miles) of latitude). We have chosen the month of November for our tour, which we feel will offer us the best chance of favourable conditions (although it is likely we will see both sunshine and rainfall in varying quantities). Clive, Phil and our local guide will be with you every step of the way and with Vietnam still being a relatively undiscovered destination, we think it is important to travel to this extraordinary country as soon as possible. We hope you will join Phil and Clive in November 2017.
