This short notice tour has been created to capitalise on the ongoing eruption of Fagradalsfjall Volcano in the South West of Iceland. We will have access to view the eruption not only from the ground at very close range, but also the epic views from above in a helicopter flight.

We will be based in the city of Reykjavik for this tour staying at the Hilton Nordica Hotel. From here we will have a short drive out to the volcano region and our aim will be to spend the extremely short nights at the volcano site. Being so far north, sunset will be at midnight and the sun will rise again around 3am. This period of lower light will be perfect to achieve a balance between the ambient light levels and the light of the lava in front of us. There is a good chance of beautiful coloured skies overhead from before sunset to after sunrise and it will not get very dark during this time depending upon the weather.

Iceland Volcano Photography Tour

Included in the price is a helicopter flight that will give each participant around ten minutes of time to photograph the eruption from above in a helicopter. The flight including the landing time will be around 90 minutes in total. The volcano is just a very short flight from the capital. We will fly over the eruption circling overhead before landing for a quick explore and changing seats to repeat the process before heading back to Reykjavik. The door will be open to provide an unobstructed view down to the rivers of lava beneath.

This is a rare opportunity to observe nature at its rawest and it will be experienced with a very small group of only four participants for more individual attention and a more intimate experience.

Please be aware- Upon arrival into Iceland we will each need to take a Covid test and isolate in our hotels until we have the results. This usually happens within 5-6 hours but may take up to 24 hours. We will be recommending arriving into Iceland as early as possible on the 19th June and we will isolate until we have results and can head over to the volcano. If we all arrive in the morning of the 19th, it is highly likely we will be able to visit the eruption site that evening.

The walk into the eruption isn’t a difficult undertaking but will take around 90 minutes each way. You will all need to be fit enough to make the walk a few times.

Due to Iceland's current Coronavirus restrictions, only fully vaccinated or those with a previous Coronavirus infection document will be able to follow the above advice. If not yet fully vaccinated or unable to provide a previous infection document you will need to isolate in a hotel for five days before the commencement of the tour. More advice can be found on the Icelandic travel website.

For those returning home from the tour, each will need to arrange a covid test two days before your flight home. We will supply information on how to do this and the relatively small costs involved. It will be a straightforward process, especially with a central Reykjavik base to operate from. And we will factor in this requirement into the logistics of the tour.

  • Hilton Nordica Hotel

Staying at the Hilton Nordica Hotel for 4 nights from 19th June - 23rdJjune 2021

    Single occupancy basis

For tours outside of the UK, we will select a recommended flight which will depart from a London airport to the destination. In most cases (unless stated otherwise), the tour leaders will greet you at the destination airport from this flight and return you to the airport at the end of the tour.

Please DO NOT book your flights until advised to do so by the office. Tours have to become viable before we select the recommended flight.

Once a tour has enough bookings to make it viable, you will receive an email to alert you that the recommended flights have been uploaded to your client area on the website.

You are welcome to make alternative travel arrangements. If doing so, please ensure you are at the destination airport for the arrival time of the recommended flight to ensure you can take the transfer to the hotel. Alternatively you can arrange your own transfers and meet the group at the hotel on the first night.
