The National Arboretum at Westonbirt in Gloucestershire is home to one of the finest tree collections in the world. Located near the historic market town of Tetbury in Gloucestershire, England, it is perhaps the most important and widely known arboretum in the United Kingdom. Managed by the Forestry Commission, the 600 acres is home to 2,500 different species of trees and over 15,000 individual specimens. One of the highlights is that Westonbirt is the home of the National Collection of Japanese maples.
There is no better time than Autumn to witness and photograph the dazzling colours. From wide views to intricate leaves and abstract patterns. The carpet of fallen leaves as well as the shapes of tree canopies are plentiful, so bring plenty of memory cards. With your tutor for the day Andy Farrer (winner of Landscape Photographer of the Year 2015) on hand, you can be sure of making the most of this memorable day in these tranquil settings.
The grounds are comprised of an old and a new arboretum so we will explore one in the morning and the other after our lunch in the cafe.
