The winter months offer some of the best opportunities for photography on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. While the sun is rising and setting far around to the South, some of the areas best known landmarks look even more remarkable than ever.

A highlight for our Jurassic Coast photography workshop, weather permitting, will be to witness and photograph the sun rising through the arch of Durdle Door. This looks great from the beach or the clifftop, where you see the path of sunlight from the horizon to the reddish shingle beach below.

Winter Light on The Jurassic Coast Photography Workshop

The winter months offer some of the best opportunities for photography on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. While the sun is rising and setting far around to the South, some of the areas best known landmarks look even more remarkable than ever.

A highlight for our Jurassic Coast photography workshop, weather permitting, will be to witness and photograph the sun rising through the arch of Durdle Door. This looks great from the beach or the clifftop, where you see the path of sunlight from the horizon to the reddish shingle beach below.

Your tutor for this workshop is Andy Farrer, who knows the coastline of Dorset intimately as he is a local to the area and photographs around Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove regularly. His winning image from Landscape Photographer of the Year in 2015 was captured from the same beach where we begin this workshop.

The Jurassic Coast stretches from Old Harry Rocks to the east of Swanage, to Orcombe Point in East Devon. The variety of geological features along the 96 miles is quite staggering and certainly a constant source of inspiration for photographers and artists.

The remainder of our day will be spent on the coast exploring techniques for crafting strong compositions and controlling the scenes with various filters and lens choices. The itinerary will be kept fairly loose to allow us to respond to the weather conditions on the day. Some of the locations you can expect to visit after Durdle Door may include Swanage, Kimmeridge, Chapman’s Pool, Winspit, Portland Bill or West Bay if we head west.

There will be a fair bit of walking involved on this photography workshop, so be prepared to exceed your 10,000 steps!

The group will meet at 06:15am at Durdle Door, the workshop will finish at approx. 3.00.pm
