Yorkshire Dales

Situated in the beautiful market town of Richmond, this Light and Land tour is led by Light and Land's founder, the acclaimed landscape professional Charlie Waite. The Yorkshire Dales is unrivalled in its dramatic limestone crags, rivers, gorges, caves and escarpments rising and falling from the classic farming dales shaped by man over hundreds of years. No matter how many times you see the veritable jigsaw of meadows, dry stone walls, field barns and farmhouses, you cannot fail to be awed by the work that has continued to make the Dales what they are today.

Richmond, founded by the Normans in 1071 is a leafy, vibrant elegant town with an impressive castle. It's within easy access of the best of what Yorkshire has to offer, Wensleydale and Swaledale. These areas offer every thing a landscape photographer can wish for from dramatic waterfalls to grand vistas over the Yorkshire countryside with its quaint villages and famous stone barns, the English landscape at its very best.

Further a field are even more iconic locations to visit, the awe inspiring Malham Cove with its limestone pavements and far reaching views whilst at Malham Tarn you enter a bleak harsher environment on the exposed windswept moors, a great challenge to any photographer.

Not withstanding the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales man’s impact on the landscape cannot be overlooked. The scars of early industrialisation remain in the form of mines and kilns in Swaledale with the magnificent 24 arches of the world famous Ribble Head viaduct, a great photographic challenge.

During the evenings at our comfortable hotel in Richmond there will be the opportunity to receive feedback on your images, or just relax and enjoy the Yorkshire hospitality after a great day of photography.
