On this new tour we will be exploring the wonders of Britains ‘other Jurassic Coast’ – a remarkable geology laid down millennia ago, which gives rise to a fascinating range of coastal bays and features, which make for wonderful seascape photography. The winter is a great time to be up on this coast with the potential for good light all day and ever changing dramatic skies, with stormy conditions a tantalising possibility. Should it snow, we could take the chance to head inland to the North Yorkshire Moors to capture some snow clad landscapes too.

Yorkshire Seascapes

On this new tour we will be exploring the wonders of Britain's ‘other Jurassic Coast’ – a remarkable geology laid down millennia ago, which gives rise to a fascinating range of coastal bays and features, which make for wonderful seascape photography. The winter is a great time to be up on this coast with the potential for good light all day and ever changing dramatic skies, with stormy conditions a tantalising possibility. Should it snow, we could take the chance to head inland to the North Yorkshire Moors to capture some snow clad landscapes too.

Based in Whitby, we will be covering locations from the famous Robin Hood's Bay in the south, through Saltwick Bay with its shipwreck and famous ‘Nabs’ where the sought after Whitby Jet was mined, to Whitby harbour (ideal for working on long exposure photography) and on up to Sandsend, Runswick Bay, the genteel pier and wide beach of Saltburn, through to the unique land and seascape of ‘Paddy’s Hole’ which combines the industrial with the natural for some wonderful juxtapositions in our compositions. There may even be time for the curiously named Boggle Hole to be included, as well as the wonderful fishing village of Staithes, birthplace of Captain Cook.

There will be opportunities for shooting from before sunrise through until after sunset right along the coast, with Doug (for whom this is his local coastal ‘patch’) and Terry guiding you to be at the right locations for the conditions and to provide you with expert individual tuition on all aspects of technique to help you progress in your skills.

The locations are not only ideal for classic seascape images but there will be opportunities to make long exposures and to work on ‘intimate landscapes’, macros and textural details. If the weather were to stop play for a short while, Doug and Terry will be able to teach Lightroom and Photoshop skills until it clears to make the very best use of the time you have together.

Doug and Terry hope you decide to join them for this location packed tour.
