Our Lake District photography tour will take place in October 2021. The Lake District is undoubtedly one of the finest places to photograph in the UK, if not the world. Ideally located near to the town of Keswick, the Borrowdale Hotel serves as the perfect base to explore some of the different parts of the Lake District.

We will spend as much time as possible in the field photographing the varied landscapes the Lake District has to offer. Weather permitting we will explore some of the fells and mountains such as Loughrigg Fell that takes in three impressive and picturesque lakes in the space of a few miles.

We will be trekking up into the mountains so a good level of fitness, agility and endurance is essential for this tour. We will be focused on leaving our vehicle behind and exploring for the day on foot. This can be extremely challenging but we will be rewarded with spectacular views and potential compositions in all directions. Getting up high and off the beaten track allows us to truly immerse ourselves and get a deeper understanding of the landscape. This feeling can then easily be translated into your photographs to assist in telling the story of this ancient landscape.

The Lake District Photography Tour - Lake District Landscape Photography

Please note: see below for the expected climbs and distances we intend to cover on this tour.

There are opportunities for photography from dusk until dawn and we will look to maximise our use of the light.

For the dawn we will be in position on two or three mornings, weather permitting, before returning to the hotel for breakfast after sunrise. This is entirely optional. After breakfast we will head out again, with packed lunches, until after sunset before returning in the evening for a well-earned evening meal.

The plan will be to head out each day to a parking location before heading out on foot and getting ‘off the beaten track’. This includes hiking up some of the lower fells (around 400-600m), weather and safety permitting, and walking approximately five to ten miles per day.

The nature of the Lake District, the mountains and the weather means we will remain flexible and discuss plans for each day the evening before.

After dinner we will retire to the lounge/bar where we can sit together, post-process our images and share stories of the day. This will be completely informal and voluntary but is a good chance for critique and to brush up on your post-production skills. It is a fun, safe and supportive environment in which to share you work and is a good way to consolidate learning and carry it into the next day.

We also request that all group members bring along some pictures or a portfolio for an informal viewing and critique session. These could be prints or digital files and the session often proves to be an invaluable experience.

Our group will consist of six people and be led by Adam Karnacz who has years of experience photographing the Lake District.

Well organised. Good locations. Helpful and inspirational tutors

Mr Phil Eckersall - 11th Oct, 2020

I thoroughly enjoyed the week, I was accompanied by a fantastic group of people as well as three great tutors (Charlie, Adam & Astrid) who shared their wealth of photographic knowledge and experience. I would thoroughly recommend a Light & Land Photographic tour to anyone interested in photography.

Mr Rijil Thomas - 10th Oct, 2020

I have come back richer with experience, education and quality. I highly recommend the workshop and I will be participating in more workshops offered by Light and Land.
