Our Yorkshire Dales photography tour with Charlie Waite and Astrid McGechan will take place in June 2023. The Yorkshire Dales are unrivalled in their dramatic limestone crags, rivers, gorges, caves and escarpments rising and falling from the classic farming dales shaped by man over hundreds of years. No matter how many times you see the veritable jigsaw of meadows, dry stone walls, field barns and farmhouses, you cannot fail to be awed by the work that has continued to make the Dales what they are today.

The upland hay meadows in the Yorkshire Dales are home to more than 100 species of wildflowers in each field, as well as many rare wildlife species and endangered animals. The timing of our tour means that the wildflower meadows will be in bloom, giving us the chance to capture this wonderful spectacle of nature.

The Yorkshire Dales - Barns, Meadows & Waterfalls

The Yorkshire Dales are unrivalled in their dramatic limestone crags, rivers, gorges, caves and escarpments rising and falling from the classic farming dales shaped by man over hundreds of years. No matter how many times you see the veritable jigsaw of meadows, dry stone walls, field barns and farmhouses, you cannot fail to be awed by the work that has continued to make the Dales what they are today.

The upland hay meadows in the Yorkshire Dales are home to more than 100 species of wildflowers in each field, as well as many rare wildlife species and endangered animals. Our tour will take place in June, when the wildflower meadows will be in bloom, giving us the chance to capture this wonderful spectacle of nature.

The market town of Richmond is in itself a Yorkshire classic. Richmond is within easy reach of the best of what Yorkshire has to offer, Wensleydale and Swaledale. These areas offer everything a landscape photographer can wish for, from dramatic waterfalls to grand vistas over the Yorkshire countryside with its quaint villages and famous stone barns – the English landscape at its very best.

Further afield, there are even more iconic locations to visit if conditions and timings allow – the awe-inspiring Malham Cove with its limestone pavements and far-reaching views, and Malham Tarn, which presents a bleak and somewhat harsher environment on the exposed windswept moors.

Notwithstanding the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales, man’s impact on the landscape cannot be overlooked. The scars of early industrialisation remain in the form of mines and kilns in Swaledale to the magnificent 24 arches of the world-famous Ribblehead Viaduct, which we hope to visit.

During the evenings at our comfortable hotel there will be the opportunity to receive feedback on your images, or just relaxing and enjoying the Yorkshire hospitality after a great day of photography.

Your tutors for this tour will be Charlie and Astrid, who will be at hand to help you make photographs you will treasure in years to come.

Well organized and every detail thoughtfully planned out. Charlie and Astrid couldn't have been more supportive and really focused their attention on the participants, all with gentle good humour. We went to locations I could only have dreamed of getting to and received expert advice on how to achieve our personal photographic goals.

Nick Gooderham - 25th Jun, 2022

A wonderful experience, balancing the technical with the practical. Full marks for identifying locations and patiently taking a small, international eclectic group through a comprehensive range of very worthwhile photographic processes, and not least, creating the WhatsApp group for further sharing and learning from each other. Great fun too. Would enjoy a re-run, also to be thoroughly recommended to friends. Thank you, both Charlie band Astrid, fellow participants too.

James Cooke - 25th Jun, 2022

Excellent workshop in a beautiful part of the country. Photographic locations were well selected, and the tutors (Charlie and Astrid) were knowledgeable and supportive.

Very well planned 4 days, support for all the group's individual needs, advice and help from both Charlie and Astrid. Excellent view points both planned and unplanned, all of which produced memorable images.

Gry Berntzen - 27th Jun, 2022
