Our Cosmopolitan Liverpool photography workshop will take place in March with Charlie Waite and Astrid McGechan.
Liverpool is a place where magnificent Victorian architecture, striking contemporary design and a rich maritime heritage combine to create an endlessly rewarding destination for photographers. Although its UNESCO World Heritage status came to an end in 2021, the city’s historic importance remains unmistakable. Once one of the world’s great trading ports, Liverpool continues to reinvent itself while preserving the architectural legacy of its remarkable past.

Cosmopolitan Liverpool Photography Workshop
We begin our day at the spectacular Metropolitan Cathedral, one of Britain’s most distinctive modern buildings, where dramatic geometry, soaring spaces and ever-changing light provide wonderful photographic opportunities. From there we walk through the city, allowing Liverpool to reveal itself as we go. Rather than simply visiting landmarks, we’ll look for the interplay of architecture, light, texture and human activity that gives the city its distinctive character and provides such rewarding photographic opportunities.
Liverpool was described as the “New York of Europe” as early as 1851, reflecting its importance as a centre of commerce, innovation and culture. That confidence is still visible today in its grand civic buildings and remarkable architectural diversity, with more than 2,500 listed buildings representing almost every major style of the past three centuries.
As we make our way towards the waterfront, the city reveals an extraordinary blend of old and new. Around the Museum of Liverpool, the Pier Head and the Albert Dock, historic warehouses stand alongside contemporary architecture, creating a fascinating visual dialogue between Liverpool’s industrial past and vibrant present. Throughout the day there will be opportunities to photograph sweeping architectural forms, intimate details, reflections, street life, graphic compositions and the ever-changing relationship between light and the urban landscape.
Whether you prefer colour or black & white, wide cityscapes or carefully observed details, our Cosmopolitan Liverpool photography workshop offers an inspiring variety of subjects. Charlie and Astrid will be on hand throughout the day to help you refine your observational skills, strengthen your compositions and develop your own creative response to the city, ensuring you return home with a memorable collection of images and fresh inspiration. Suitable for photographers of all levels, the workshop is designed to develop both your creative vision and your technical skills while exploring one of Britain’s most fascinating cities.
The workshop runs from 10.00am to 5.00pm.
