Our Metropolis Birmingham Photography Workshop will take place in September and will be led by Verity Milligan.

Although Birmingham’s skyline has been much maligned over the years, this workshop will demonstrate that there are many photogenic areas to the city. Birmingham is a city of juxtapositions, and Verity has spent the best part of a decade getting the know Birmingham and documenting its evolution into a modern European metropolis. Verity’s intricate knowledge of the city means that you will get a unique insight into Birmingham’s urban sprawl - from modern, abstract architecture to the serenity of the Grand Union Canal.

Metropolis Birmingham Photography Workshop - Birmingham Creative Photography
We’ll start the workshop just after lunchtime, as the city looks best towards the later end of the day into the sunset and the dusk that follows. This will give us the opportunity to explore the architecture in the daylight and the dark. We’ll explore parts of Birmingham that you might not ever have considered photographing before, from the serenity of Gas Street Basin to the grandeur of the Library of Birmingham situated in the newly redeveloped Centenary Square.

Cities come to life at dusk, and Birmingham is no exception. As the light fades we’ll create long exposures of the newly installed trams along Broad Street and back towards the city centre.

When darkness falls, the city offers up all kinds of photographic opportunities. There will be plenty of opportunities to photograph the juxtaposing architecture as well as try your hand and more creative endeavours such as long exposures of passing trams or capturing abstract reflections in the city’s numerous water features. Not only will Verity take you to Birmingham’s hidden gems, she’ll show you how to get the best out of them.

The workshop will start at 1:30pm and finish at around 9pm.
