Our Berlin photography tour will take place with Damien Demolder in September. A city of contrasts, Berlin is a visually stunning city that offers the photographer with a keen eye a multitude of choices and opportunities. Even though now united as one city, the divisions of the past are still very much in evidence, as history meets the modern age and the influences of the East and the West are clear to experience throughout the city.

On this tour, we will observe and record an amazing capital and feel the culture of its streets, buildings and people.

Berlin Photography Tour - A City of Two Halves
This tour will concentrate on capturing the atmosphere of Berlin and the people that inhabit and visit its streets. We will watch the tourists and the attractions of the Brandenburg Gate area and see the antics around Check Point Charlie, as well as the iconic and moving memorials and monuments. We will delve deeper to shoot life away from the tourist trails and see the city on the other side of the border where appearances haven’t changed quite as much since The Wall came down at the end of the Eighties.

The city is split in two by the winding river Spree that ambles from East to West along part of the famous wall and into the heart of modern government. The Reichstag and the parliament buildings make an incredible photographic backdrop and will give us opportunities for some dramatic architectural studies.

This is no pretty Latin city and, while it does contain areas of beauty, its character can feel hard and harsh, imposing, dramatic and dominating. We will visit in winter when the days are short and the light is long – we will be able to make the most of the colours of the city lights, and the solid stone of its walls and streets will provide an addictive atmosphere for graphically minded street photographers.

We will study the shapes, the forms, the light and the people as we explore the past and the future in this largest of Germany’s cities. It is a city full of people, and ranks only below London as the second most populated city in Europe. It is a perfect place to take pictures.

The tour will start at 3pm on the arrival day and conclude at 3pm on the departure day.
