Our Suffolk photography tour 'Sea, Sails and Skies' will take place in November 2024 with Tom Sullam and Ed Rumble.

The Suffolk coast forms part of the 150-mile stretch of East Anglia’s shoreline, book-ended by the River Stour estuary in the south and the River Waveney in the north. Much of the area forms The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) stretching from Felixtowe to Kessingland, and covering 170 square miles.  The AONB is also one of the most important wildlife havens in Britain, encompassing three National Nature Reserves, many Sites of Special Scientific Interest and the RSPB’s Minsmere Reserve.

Included is a an online group image review and post-processing session on 20 November 2024, 10:30-12:30.

Suffolk Photography Tour - Suffolk Coast Landscape Photography
Suffolk’s rivers and the low-lying marshes and reed beds have pushed the main trunk roads well inland and have left this beautiful landscape largely unspoilt by modern development. It has long attracted the artist community, no doubt partly inspired by its most famous son, the romantic landscape painter, John Constable whose best known works depict scenes from along the River Stour on the southern border of the county.

As photographers, we shall thrive in this wonderful environment of shingle beaches, sand dunes, marshes, estuaries, and heathland, not forgetting the opportunity to train our cameras on some man-made features, such as windpumps, fisherman shacks, beach huts and sea defences.

The tour in November is timed so that we will enjoy low angles of the sun at the beginning and end of the day, perhaps with some early mist or sea fog. If the weather is less favourable, there will still be fantastic opportunities to create images full of mood and atmosphere, perhaps in black and white or using long exposure techniques. There will be time during the evenings to relax at our comfortable hotel, perhaps while reviewing and discussing images and post processing techniques that may help bring out the best in your photographs.

Participants will be offered a complimentary online group image review and post-processing session where we will enjoy looking at some of our best images in an informal and constructive environment. This will take place on Wednesday, 20 November at 10:30-12:30 and everyone is free to join for all or part of it.

Your tutors, Ed Rumble and Tom Sullam are enthusiastic and experienced photographers who will be at hand to help you make the most of locations and conditions and return with photographs that will have captured some of the magic of this wonderful corner of England.
