Our Brittany photography tour 'The Lighthouse Route' will take place in April 2025 with Tom Sullam and Ed Rumble. The Brittany coastline has the largest concentration of lighthouses in the world. Yet they are each so architecturally different from one another and surrounded by diverse geology from imposing cliffs to sandy beaches. As well as the lighthouses, there are many more coastal subjects to photograph during our tour of this epic stretch of coastline.
We shall aim to visit the pretty Petit Minou with its stone causeway snaking into the bay of Brest, the squat and square Kermovan at the end of its rocky peninsula, braced against the westerlies, and the almost Byzantine looking Mean Ruz perched on extraordinary pink granite rocks from which its stones have been hewn.

The Lighthouse Route - Brittany Photography Tour
Our tour will begin close to Nantes where we shall stay overnight close to the town of Pornic. This will afford us the opportunity of photographing some lovely fishing huts, or Carrelets, that are common to this stretch of coastline and make fascinating subjects, particularly using long exposure techniques. We then make our way northwards to the western reaches of Finistère where the drama of the coast and prevailing weather so often justifies its literal translation as ‘the end of the earth’. Staying close to Le Conquet will allow us to access the truly wonderful locations this region has to offer at dawn and dusk where, with luck, dramatic skies and light will hopefully provide a fitting backdrop to our subjects. There will be an opportunity to take a short boat trip to photograph a beautiful spiral staircase at another famous lighthouse.
We then move along the northern shoreline and base ourselves close to the Côte de Granit Rose where the turquoise seas perfectly compliment the remarkable pink hued rock that has been smoothed and shaped by countless tides. From here we visit the quaint ‘House between the Rocks’ and explore further secluded bays and islets along the nearby coast.
Our final sortie takes us just across the border into Normandy to visit the iconic Mont-Saint-Michel. En-route will be the potential for abstract images of mussel farms in a sheltered river estuary and a visit to an imposing Medieval Castle looming over the headland. At Mont-Saint-Michel, we hope to have time and conditions for both a dawn and dusk shoot from different locations as well as a visit to the island itself with a tour of the Abbey and Cloisters.
This new Light & Land tour promises to be a memorable journey in the company of Tom and Ed, two experienced photographers and guides who will be keen to encourage the development of your photographic vision and to help you produce some high-quality images of the region. There will be plenty of opportunities when not on location to review images and discuss post processing techniques as well as to enjoy the gastronomic delights of the region in relaxed and good-humoured company.
