Our Lakes, Legends and Morning Light - Snowdonia photography workshop will take place in October and will be led by Verity Milligan.
Snowdonia/Eryri (pronounced ‘Eh-ruh-ree’) is an ancient landscape that is steeped in rich folklore and history. There is a magic to this place, that is evident in the landscape, whether it’s the rugged mountains scarred by industry, the dramatic coastline, tranquil mountain lakes or ancient woodlands.
Together with Mountains, Memory and Evening Light, these back-to-back workshops follow a quiet arc through Eryri—from the last light over sea and stone to first light on still waters.

Snowdonia Photography Workshop - Lakes, Legends and Morning Light
For sunrise we will base ourselves at either Llyn Crafnant, or Llyn Dinas, depending on how good the autumn colour is in either location. This will be conveyed to you in advance of the workshop. Llyn Crafnant offers views of the Carneddau mountains, and if the conditions allow, there is the opportunity to photograph the mountain range reflecting in the still waters. If reflections aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other attractions around the lakeside, including some beautiful woodland that will be full of autumnal colour.
Llyn Dinas derives its name from the nearby Dinas Emrys, a little hillock that is right at the centre of Welsh mythology. Legend has it that Merlin once walked this land, and the sword, ‘Excalibur’, still resides in the lake itself. Climbing the hill is optional, as there are plenty of views in and around the lake itself. Separating the Snowdon ridge from the Moelwynion mountains, there are plenty of compositions to be found, whether that lake is still and reflective or there’s more drama in the air.
After sunrise we will head to our second location, the Fairy Glen situated near Betws y Coed. This magical spot is even more impressive during the autumn months. Walking the narrow path down the ravine will require sturdy footwear and a decent level of fitness, but once in the gorge, there are plenty of photographic opportunities of incredible rock formations and water as it flows through the ravine.
Finally, we’ll make the short journey to our final location, Llyn Mymbyr, two lakes that were once a single body of water near the village of Capel Curig. Situated in the valley, this place offers up glorious views back towards the Snowdon horseshoe, framed by glorious autumnal colour from the trees found on the shoreline.
This workshop is limited to 6 places. It will run from 6:30am to 1:30pm. The workshop will require participants to have their own transport. Verity will have limited space in her vehicle for those who are travelling by public transport.
