Our photography tour to Rome will take place in October 2026 and will be led by Peter Fenech. Rome is the perfect travel photo destination, offering an endless variety of textured buildings, glorious church interiors, and street photo opportunities, all bathed in the famous glowing Roman light. What truly makes Rome a great place for photography is the way the city charts many centuries of history in its architectural styles and ambience. While the Colosseum might be the most famous landmark, there is far more to explore with a camera, and this tour is about finding unique images where the tourists don’t think to look.

Although we’ll be kept busy with the potential images you see in every direction, that doesn’t mean there won’t be time to relax. There’s nothing better than sitting with a cappuccino and a cannolo and watching the world go by after a fulfilling morning of photography. We’ll be based in the Aurelio neighbourhood, a stone’s throw from Vatican City and the best-known bridges on the River Tiber. This means we’ll have some of Rome’s best features on our doorstep.

The Eternal City - Rome Photography Tour

Rome Photography Tour -  The Eternal City
One of our themes is 'Secret Rome’ and we'll endeavour to reveal features of the city most tourists don’t know about. We’ll take in the Campo de' Fiori to capture the street scenes and action of the busy market. The area offers some hidden streets and squares, and we’ll explore them here! Aventine Hill will be on our list, to capture another view seen only by people in the know. From the Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta, through a small keyhole, there is a perfect alignment with the dome of St Peter’s Basilica that can’t be missed. One of our evening shoots wiill take us to Capitoline Hill for a view over the Roman Forum to the Colosseum, and to capture Campidoglio after dark. The atmosphere here is unbeatable and, often, you have the spectacular sight of the illuminated Arch of Septimius Severus and the columns of the Temple of Saturn seemingly to yourself. It’s almost possible to hear the footsteps of the ancient Romans walking the cobbled streets of the Forum, the old centre of commerce and government.

The Via del Corso is Rome’s main street and, although it is a hotspot for luxury shops, it is also a convenient route through the historic centre of the city. Starting early in Piazza del Popolo, to beat the crowds, we’ll capture the classic view of the Twin Churches of S. Maria dei Miracoli and S. Maria in Montesanto. Heading south on the Corso, shooting the quaint side streets as we go, we’ll call past the famous Piazza di Spagna and Trevi Fountain, to the Piazza della Rotunda. This will give us the chance to practise capturing famous landmarks without throngs of tourists, and we’ll learn how to shoot busy locations in the vast space of the Pantheon. Rebuilt by the Emperor Hadrian, this church has one of the most awe-inspiring interiors in the world.

Of course, we won't miss St Peter’s, the world’s greatest Basilica. Here, we’ll learn to use scale for context in our shots and capture the famous Swiss Guards in beams of light. Outside, we may take a slow walk through the tree-lined streets of the affluent and picturesque neighbourhood of Prati. Our tour to the Eternal City promises to be a photographic feast! Join Peter and make unique images in one of the world’s most historic cities!
