If you're seeking a photography tour that offers more than just picture-perfect scenes, Alsace in October might just be the ideal choice. Nestled between the Rhine and the Vosges mountains, this enchanting region of northeastern France is known for its vineyards, timber-framed villages, and quietly majestic landscapes — and who better to guide you through it than Charlie Waite and Astrid McGechan? With their wealth of experience and deep affection for the area, you're in excellent hands.
Autumn in Alsace is nothing short of a visual feast. As the vines are starting to turn and the soft light of the season settles over the hills, the region becomes a dream for photographers. You'll have the opportunity to explore and capture a variety of scenes — from vast swathes of vineyards climbing toward distant peaks to the intricate details and charming corners of villages like Hunawihr, Sainte-Hippolyte, and Bennwihr. It’s the sort of place that rewards patient observation, offering delicate cameos and compositions at every turn.

Alsace Photography Tour - Villages, Castles and Vineyards
Tucked between the Rhine and the Vosges mountains, Alsace is a region where history, landscape, and culture converge in a uniquely captivating way. In October, as the vineyards turn to burnished gold and the villages take on a quiet, post-harvest calm, Alsace becomes a place of remarkable stillness and beauty — the perfect setting for a photography tour that’s as inspiring as it is rewarding.
Once fiercely contested between France and Germany, Alsace bears the marks of both in its architecture, language, and traditions. Wandering through its cobbled streets, you’ll find medieval church spires, half-timbered houses painted in soft pastels, and village squares that seem almost unchanged by time. Places like Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé aren’t just beautiful — they feel steeped in a long and complex story, with each weathered doorway and hillside chapel offering something quietly profound to photograph.
Ribeauvillé, where we will be based, is a lively small town with no shortage of photographic interest - its medieval charm, rich textures, and a generous scattering of architectural gems will be right on our doorstep. From here, we'll venture out to explore more of the region’s treasures — not only the better-known spots such as Riquewihr, but also quieter, less-trodden corners that still carry the soul of old Alsace.
This is a tour that thoughtfully balances time in the wider landscape with the intimacy of village life. Churches punctuate the region in perfectly chosen spots, offering strong compositional focal points, while the gentle rhythm of life here makes it a refreshing change of pace. Whether you're refining your visual storytelling or simply wish to immerse yourself in a quietly stunning part of France, this tour offers the time and space to do just that, with Charlie and Astrid by your side to make sure you'll return with photographs to treasure.
