Our Mountains, Memory & Evening Light - Snowdonia photography workshop will take place in October and will be led by Verity Milligan.
Snowdonia/Eryri (pronounced ‘Eh-ruh-ree’) is an ancient landscape that is steeped in rich folklore and history. There is a magic to this place, that is evident in the landscape, whether it’s the rugged mountains scarred by industry, the dramatic coastline, tranquil mountain lakes or ancient woodlands.
Together with Lakes, Legends and Morning Light, these back-to-back workshops follow a quiet arc through Eryri—from the last light over sea and stone to first light on still waters.

Snowdonia Photography Workshop - Mountains, Memory and Evening Light
Although our time in this place will be brief, there will be plenty of opportunity to enjoy this wonderful landscape. We will start the afternoon in Dinorwig slate quarry. This place is particularly special to Verity as her Taid was a slate quarryman who spent much of his working life working at Dinorwic and living in Llanberis. It is a unique place that offers up the juxtaposition between the beautiful mountainscape of Eryri and the manmade quarry that has left an indelible mark on the landscape. From the main viewing point there is plenty to explore, from the old railway line and the industrial detritus that is scattered all over the landscape, to the views over Llanberis and Llyn Padarn. Further down we’ll explore the Anglesey barracks, used to house workers from Anglesey while they worked in the quarry. Where humans once dwelled has been reclaimed by nature and that makes for some interesting and thought provoking compositions. Please note that this will involve scrabbling down some steep terrain, so sturdy footwear is encouraged.
For evening and into sunset we will head across to the island of Anglesey and the magnificent Ynys Llanddwyn. Away from the mountains, Ynys Llanddwyn/Newborough beach is an impressive landscape. Looking back across the mountains of Eryri national park, the white sandy dunes stretch out towards the water. Just off the sand is a woodland full of pine trees, adding texture and interest to any coastal scene.
As if that wasn’t enough, at the far end of the beach sits Tŵr Mawr lighthouse, accessible when only the tide allows, but visible from the shoreline. Wild ponies roam this holy ground and it’s hard not to embrace the magic that the scenery conjures.
Facing west, this location is particularly impressive at sunset with the low light illuminating the pine beaches and hi-lighting the lighthouse.
This workshop is limited to 6 places. It will run from 12noon to 7pm. The workshop will require participants to have their own transport. Verity will have limited space in her vehicle for those who are travelling by public transport.
